Mr Ross’ role in the Medical Industry Association of Australia (MIAA) is to encourage the development of strategies to improve patient access to new medical technology.
Since the announcement of Government reforms to prostheses benefits arrangements, he has coordinated the medical device industry’s response. In July 2004, the Minister for Health and Ageing appointed Mr Ross to the industry position on the Prostheses and Devices Committee which provides advice to the Minister on the listing and benefit levels for prostheses. He is also a member of the Department’s Policy Advisory Committee on prostheses reforms.
Mr Ross steered the development of MIAA’s submissions to the Productivity Commission’s recent Research Report into the Impacts of Advances in Medical Technology in Australia. MIAA strongly supports the Commission’s conclusion (albeit qualified) that the benefits of technological advances to the Australian community outweigh the costs.
Mr Ross is a graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon and served in the Australian Army for over 25 years. He was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross for his leadership of the Army’s humanitarian relief operation to Kurdistan after the first Gulf War in 1991. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Southern Cross University and is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
