“Thank You” Day 2009

Health and medical research saves thousands of lives every year ... the next life it saves could be yours.

Over 1.04 million messages have been collected in the past 6 years for Research Australia’s award-winning “Thank You” Day public awareness campaign which aims to raise community awareness of the benefits of health and medical research.

The concept of “Thank You” provides an opportunity for the public to acknowledge the importance of health research in addressing illness and promoting health.  It provides an opportunity to the research community to acknowledge the support of the public, government, industry and philanthropic sector in building a vibrant health and medical research sector in Australia that, in turn, generates major improvements in community health.

Research Australia in conjunction with its 190 member base organisations encourages our members and members of the community to get involved by conducting their own events (launches, announcements, public forums, celebrations), promote the campaign to friends and colleagues or to simply send a message of thanks through the Research Australia website www.thankyouday.org and SMS messaging service (0428THANKS).

An important part of "Thank You" Day is to make our decision-makers and community leaders understand how important health and medical research is to Australians. Your message may also be used to help us to promote the difference that health and medical research makes to people's lives.

We hope you will become involved in 2009.  Please visit the website in March to find out more about the 2009 campaign or contact us if you wish to find out more.
